Curl Defining Gel

Curl gels generally fall into two camps: ones that hold curls with a stiff, crunchy cast that has to be “scrunched out” later, and ones that hold shape while staying soft to the touch. This one is formulated for the second — definition and hold through the day, without hair feeling stiff or sticky once it dries.

Curl definition works best when the product is applied to hair that’s still wet, since that’s when curls are most flexible and easiest to shape. Applying gel to already-dry hair tends to sit on top of the hair rather than shaping the curl itself, which is why timing in your wash routine matters as much as the product.

How to use it:
Apply to freshly washed, conditioned hair while it’s still soaked or very damp — this is not a product for dry hair. Scrunch upward from ends to roots to encourage your natural curl pattern to form and clump together, rather than smoothing the gel down, which can stretch curls out. Let hair air dry or diffuse on low heat; avoid touching it too much while drying, since this is what causes frizz.

A few honest notes:
Curl gels can build up over several uses if you don’t wash hair regularly, so a gentle clarifying wash every so often helps keep curls looking fresh rather than weighed down.
