We buy shea nuts, moringa seeds, and rosehip oil close to home. Then we make each bottle by hand, right here in Ongata Rongai.

How organic cosmetics made in Kenya get made here
Most of what you'll find here starts with something simple, a nut, a seed, or a leaf. We buy each one from people we know. We press the shea butter by hand from nuts we buy through a small cooperative. We get the moringa oil from small farms a short drive from Ongata Rongai. We don't add preservatives or fragrance oils to stretch a batch further. So what's in the bottle is just what came out of the press.
That also means batches run out. When the shea butter sells through, we wait for the next pressing. We don't switch to a cheaper supplier just to keep the shelf full. It's slower, but it's honest. That's why regular customers keep asking for the same jar instead of whatever's newest.
Where the ingredients come from
Ongata Rongai sits close to some of the country's best growing land. So buying locally isn't just a marketing line here, it's simply easier than importing. Shea nuts come through a women's cooperative in West Pokot. Small farms nearer home grow the moringa and rosehip. We press both within days of arriving, not months later.
The handcraft corner works the same way. Artisans in Kisumu weave the baskets, and beadwork groups around Nairobi make the jewellery. We buy from them directly, not through a middleman. That way, more of what you pay reaches the people who made it.
Kwemima Naturals started small, and it still is
Kwemima Naturals began small. We made a handful of jars at home and shared them with neighbours in Ongata Rongai, long before this became an actual shop. That's still roughly how it runs today. We just have a proper shopfront now, and a few more hands helping press, bottle, and pack. Nothing about growing has changed the process. Batches are still small. We still buy ingredients from people nearby, and the shea butter still comes from the same cooperative it always has.
Getting the most out of what you buy
Raw shea butter looks solid in the jar. But it melts the moment it meets warm skin. So a little goes further than it looks like it will. Melt a small amount between your palms first, rather than digging out a big scoop.
The shampoo bar lasts longer if you let it dry between uses. Keep it on a small dish or rack. Don't leave it sitting in water on the shower floor, or it'll wear down faster than it should.
Pure oils like moringa and rosehip work best on top of a moisturizer, not instead of one. Press a few drops into damp skin at night. That does more than a heavy layer during the day.

Do you deliver outside Ongata Rongai?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with your location and we'll sort out delivery within Nairobi and beyond. Pickup at the shop is free if you're nearby.
What if a product doesn't suit my skin?

Come back and tell us. Skin reacts differently to raw, unrefined ingredients than to products full of stabilizers. We'd rather talk it through with you. That way, we can find something that actually suits you. We'd rather do that than leave you stuck with a jar you won't use.
Why are some products out of stock?

Because we make in small batches and don't pad the shelf with filler to keep it looking full. When something sells out, it means the last batch actually sold, not that we're short on stock photos.
